Cultural Story
肠, the intestines, became a classical image of twisting sorrow: poets wrote of 愁肠 sorrowful bowels knotted by longing, and 断肠 heart-cut-gut for grief beyond words. The 汉书 praises officials who 柔肠 soften their gut toward the people. A good 心肠 heart was the measure of a person.

Read the story behind the character
Your 肠胃 stomach and intestines complain after street-side crayfish, and you swear off spicy food until next week. Breakfast means biting into a 香肠 sausage from a breakfast cart. Grandpa judges people by their 心肠 disposition, doctors ask about your 大肠 large intestine at checkups, and biology class diagrams the 小肠 small intestine in meticulous coils.
Why this character belongs on skin
Longing lives in the bowels, not the head. Cháng is the intestine—the coiled, patient passage the poets made the true home of grief and love, where a letter from a far province could twist a man double. To be heartbroken was, in their speech, to have the bowels cut; to worry was to have them tied in knots no hand could loosen. To wear this character is to admit your feelings are not tidy—they wander, they knot, they ache in places reason cannot reach. Let it rest low, where anxiety pools and tenderness gathers. You feel too much, and that is not a flaw to apologize for. The ink is the map of your insides, honest and unresolved. Love deeply. Let it twist you. The gut, at least, never lies.
