Cultural Story
蛙 is the frog, singer of paddy fields and fable of the well. Zhuangzi's frog at the bottom of a well, who mistakes its circle of sky for the whole heavens, remains China's sharpest image for a narrow mind. Song poets, kinder, heard frogs as harvest music: the fragrance of rice flowers and a night full of frog song.

Read the story behind the character
Frogs now jump through gyms and kitchens. Swim classes teach 蛙泳 (breaststroke) first because it feels frog-like; PE teachers line kids up for 蛙跳 (frog jump, leapfrog) races across the mat. Night markets fry 牛蛙 (bullfrog) in chili oil for adventurous friends, and a spring thunderstorm in a suburban compound still brings out the small green chorus Zhuangzi would recognize instantly.
Why this character belongs on skin
The insect radical beside a croak — the frog, plump sentinel of the rice paddies, singing the wet nights into being. Basho made it immortal in seventeen syllables: old pond, a frog leaps in, the sound of water. In China its voice was rain's promise, a charm for the harvest, and the frog on ancient bronzes meant fertility and flood and the moon's round belly — the animal as a small god of plenty. There is something comic and something holy in the same creature. It sits perfectly still for hours, a master of the Daoist art of waiting, doing nothing with complete attention — and then commits, entirely, in a single unhesitating leap, with no rehearsal and no regret. That is a whole philosophy in one motion: stillness, then surrender. Wear the leap, small, at the wrist or the ankle. Let the ink remind you to stop rehearsing, and jump.
