Cultural Story
A 篓 is a woven bamboo hamper, the working vessel of tea pickers, fishermen and market gardeners, carried on the back or slung from a shoulder pole. Farming manuals describe families hauling 竹篓 of mulberry leaves to feed silkworms; hill villages stored charcoal, dried fungi and late-autumn persimmons in lidded 篓子 through the winter.

Read the story behind the character
In the tea hills above Hangzhou, pickers still fill 竹篓 with spring buds, and a woven 篓子 hangs in plenty of farmhouse kitchens holding garlic, dried chilies or eggs. Street vendors pack roast chestnuts into little hampers, and farm-stay gift boxes of honey and mushrooms often arrive lashed inside a wicker 篓.
Why this character belongs on skin
Woven bamboo, open at the mouth, made for gathering: 篓 is the basket—the one on the gatherer's back, the one at the fisherman's feet, the one filling all afternoon with what the hillside and the water give up. Mushrooms after rain. Tea leaves, two leaves and a bud, picked by fingers faster than sight. The day's small harvest: chestnuts, herbs, minnows, firewood bundles. There is a whole ethics in the object. A basket does not grab; it receives. It is open at the top on purpose—what is gathered must be able to arrive. And it fills gradually, which is how everything real fills: no hauls, just returns, again and again, until the load is worth the climb. To wear 篓 is to claim the gatherer's pace against the world's plunder. Open hands, patient weaving, small harvests honestly carried. Ink it where a strap would cross—over the shoulder, near the heart— and let it fill, season by season, with everything the hillside was willing to give someone who kept showing up.
