At the Hong Gate banquet Xiang Zhuang offered to perform the sword dance, '意在沛公,' his 项 a cover for the blade meant for Liu Bang — the 项庄舞剑 that turned a feast into a trap. The 项 as neck and as item both appear in that old scene of courtesy masking intent. To read the 项 of a list or the 项 of a man was, sometimes, to read a danger held just under the surface.
