Cultural Story

The First Emperor, having united the realm, 颁布 a single script, a single axle-width, and a single measure of weight, the 颁布 of standards that let carts and clerks move as one. To 颁发 a law from the throne was to fix the shape of daily life at a stroke. The 颁奖 of ranks and the 颁 of edicts both flowed from that same central hand, the word 颁 the moment authority spoke and the realm listened.

Read the story behind the character

A ceremony 颁奖 to the year's researchers while the ministry 颁布 the new safety rules the same week. The dean 颁发 the certificates and the 颁 of the grant letter follows by post. A clerk files the 颁布 notice and the 颁奖 photo goes up on the wall, the 颁 of each document a small, formal act the office performs without fuss.

Why this character belongs on skin

There is a moment when power becomes blessing: the hand that grants, the voice that declares, the medal laid on the chest. The character 颁 is that act of issuing, a law sent down, a prize bestowed, recognition made public. The emperor 颁布 his edicts; the academy 颁奖 to its few. In Confucian order, to receive 颁 was to be seen by the state, to matter in the written record of men. The Christian finds its echo in the crown laid up, the award that comes from a higher court than Rome. To wear this is to honor the part of you that deserves to be named aloud, that has earned its recognition and will not hide the fact. Ink it as a quiet claim to your own worth, the mark of one who was awarded by life and knows it. Let it sit where achievement can be felt, not shouted.
