Cultural Story
秦 rose from a frontier valley in today's Shaanxi and Gansu, breeding horses for Zhou kings before building a state of its own. In 221 BC Qin conquered its rivals and founded the first unified empire, standardising script, axle widths, weights and measures. The dynasty fell fast, but the name stayed fixed to the land: the Qinling mountains and the rough opera of Shaanxi still carry it.

Qin lives on as geography and culture. Students memorise the 秦朝 Qin dynasty and the 秦国 Qin state that founded it; travelers cross the 秦岭 Qinling range by high-speed rail; in Xi'an teahouses the roaring 秦腔 Qin opera still shakes the rafters. Museum halls displaying 秦代 Qin-era bronzes draw queues around the block.
Why this character belongs on skin
From the western hills came the state that swallowed the six kingdoms and forged, for the first time, one China under one law. Qín is that dynasty — brief, merciless, and foundational, the hammer that unified the script and the road and the measure of all things. The First Emperor burned the books and built the wall and slept guarded by a clay army, and we still live inside the borders he drew. To carry qín is to reckon with founding power, the ruthless competence that builds what softer ages only dream. We each have a qín within — the part that ends the argument, lays the stone, demands the order the soul needs to survive. Ink it where the will is hardest, the jaw or the sternum, a stark homage to the unifier, the one who says enough of division, enough of drifting, and raises the wall and the road in a single, uncompromising season. Let it mark the founder you are, or fear, in yourself.
