静 · Zhong Yao (v2)
静 (靜, jìng) does not begin as silence. The Shuowen Jiezi (《说文解字》 青部) glosses it ‘靜，審也。从青，爭聲’ — to be exact, to be well weighed. Xu Kai’s note explains ‘丹青明审也’, the pigments correctly told apart, and Duan Yucai extends it: ‘采色详审得其宜谓之静’ — col $9.00 – Purchase Checkout Added to cart
