The 'Book of Songs' opens the 'Reed Bank' ode with white 露 frozen into 霜, the dew that marks the cold edge of the year and the longing it carries. A 露珠 on the morning leaf and the 甘露 a ruler was said to grant both drew on that same bright, fleeting wet. To write of 露 was to name what shows for an hour and is gone, like a confidence.

Why this character belongs on skin

露 is to bare, to reveal — the dew on grass at dawn, and 裸露, bare-skinned, with nothing between you and the air. There is a vulnerability in 露 that the other "show" words don't carry; it is exposure as an act of trust. To stand revealed, unsheltered, is terrifying and it is also the most intimate freedom we know — the lover's room, the chosen family's table, the night you stopped performing and let your real face show. 露 means you decided the cost of hiding was higher than the risk of being seen. To mark yourself with it is almost a dare to your own courage: stay bare, stay true, stay in the open where love can actually reach you.
