Cultural Story
The Zuo Zhuan speaks of the spring 蒐, the lord's hunt that was also a muster, the realm 搜ing its strength for war. 搜 is the sweeping search, the net drawn wide through wood and through roster alike to gather what was scattered, and the deer the lord hunted were really only conscripts in disguise, collared by the same wide net.

Read the story behind the character
You 搜索 the web; a scholar 搜集s the papers; police 搜查 the flat; an agent 搜身, frisks. The lord's hunt is a query now. The wide net is the same, whether it musters an army, finds a citation, or merely pats the stranger down at the gate for what he should not be carrying, and the query is only the hunt, typed and instantly regretted.
Why this character belongs on skin
The hounds are loosed at first light and the forest gives up its secrets one by one. To search is the body's argument with absence, the refusal to accept that something precious is simply gone. The scholars of the burning of the books went into the hills to recover what the empire tried to erase, carrying the words in their bones when paper failed. We are searchers by birth—for the lost father, the true name, the reason the night feels hollow. The Dao says the seeker who stops looking finds; the Christian parable sends the woman sweeping the house for one lost coin. Wear this for every hunt you have refused to abandon. The search is its own country, and those who dwell there are never quite homeless. What you seek is seeking you, across the dark.
