惜 · Shi You
Xī (1st tone). The Shuowen is terse: 「惜，痛也。从心昔聲」 — sorrow, from heart (心) with 昔 (xī) for sound. The sense broadened to ‘cherish / be loath to part with’: 《广韵》 gives 悋 (stingy with), while 《增韵》 gives 怜 / 爱 (to pity, to love). Classical line $9.00 – Purchase Checkout Added to cart
