Chang means moving without obstruction — wine flowing, speech flowing, breath flowing. Wang Xizhi's Orchid Pavilion preface gives it its most elegant outing: 畅叙幽情, to pour out deep feeling freely, as friends drift down a stream with floating winecups.

The word still promises ease: 流畅, fluent — prose, internet, or skating gait; 畅快, exhilarated, after a match; 舒畅, relieved and at ease, in body and mind; roads 畅通, unobstructed, on the traffic app; friends 畅谈 late into the night; and tourists 畅游, swimming or roaming freely.

Why this character belongs on skin

畅 is what water does when nothing blocks it — it flows, it finds the sea, it does not ask to be allowed. The old writers used 畅快 for the clean joy of a body moving without obstruction, breath unstopped, words finally spoken all the way out. Think of the first time you said the name you chose without flinching, or kissed whoever you loved in the light of a friend's kitchen. That ease is 畅. So much of our lives is spent pushing against a door that was never really locked. Let this character be the reminder that you were built to move clear, to take up the whole current. No dam, no detour, no asking. The Daoists knew a person unblocked is a person free. Carry 畅 on your skin and you are telling the world you will not be narrowed.
