Why this character belongs on skin
The character shows a person with something heavy laid upon the back — to carry, to bear, and by a twist of fate, to owe. 负 is the load you choose and the load that chooses you. We spend our years balancing both: the child, the grief, the debt of a promise made in youth. The West calls this burden; the older eye calls it belonging. To be 负 is to be entrusted, even by suffering. A tattoo of this word is for the shoulders that have never been empty, for the one who carries the family's memory or a love they couldn't save. Wear it across the upper back, where the weight actually rests, and let it testify: I did not put this down, and I was not destroyed by it. The carrying was the proof you were here, and strong enough to be given something to hold.
