Cultural Story
至 shows an arrow flying down and striking the ground: arrival, the moment a thing reaches its mark. It became the grammar of limits — 至今, until now; 至少, at least; 甚至, even — and the philosophy of ends, as when the 大学 speaks of reaching the utmost good. A letter's closing words, 冬至将至, still mark the year's hinge when the cold deepens.

Read the story behind the character
The train app says your train 将至 — about to arrive — so you gather your bags on the platform. 至今, until this day, you still haven't replied to that email; 至少, at least, you answered the urgent one. Your roommate asks 至于, as for, the groceries — and even, 甚至, the cat's food — did you remember? 至此, up to this point, you realize you forgot everything.
Why this character belongs on skin
An arrow finds the earth. That is the oldest picture of 至 — arrival, the point beyond which there is no further, the utmost. It means to arrive, and it means the highest degree of anything: the most beautiful, the most loved, the most lost. We live in the almost, the nearly, the good-enough. 至 refuses the nearly. It is the summit, the extreme, the thing at its very edge. To carry it is to admit you want the whole of something, not the half. A small, severe character for a large appetite. It does not promise happiness — only that you will know when you have reached the end of wanting, and stand there, arrived, complete, undeniably at the limit of the line.
