Why this character belongs on skin
Before the brush, there was the act of pouring — 写 meant to drain a vessel, to let something flow from inside to out, and only later became the writing of words. Every writer knows that truth: to write is to empty yourself onto the page, to make a room of your insides. We treat writing as craft, as career, as proof. But the older sense is closer to confession. To carry 写 is to admit you are a vessel with something in it that must move. It is the mark of a person who would rather spill than rot. On the skin it is almost ironic — the body itself becoming the page, the ink writing the writer. You do not need to be published. The mere willingness to pour is the thing. 写 remembers that for you, in a line that will outlast the hand that made it.
