Why this character belongs on skin

One person turns; another appears upside down beside him, and the change is complete. 化 is transformation itself — the character built from two figures, one upright and one inverted, as if to say: everything that is, is also becoming its opposite. Ice becomes water becomes vapor; the caterpillar folds and unfolds as something winged. The West loves the fixed self, the brand, the story that stays.
