粹 is pure, unalloyed — grain picked clean, color unmixed. Philosophers used it for character without a drop of dross. A white radical against raw grain: 粹 is purity won by processing—the rice stripped to its whitest heart, nothing husked, nothing wasted. 纯粹 means pure through and through; 精粹, the quintessence, the drop that survived the distillation. The alchemists' dream in a single glyph: first matter refined until only the true remains. But purity here is not innocence, which is merely ignorance of fire.
