Cultural Story
A 瞬 is one blink — the eye radical pinned to 舜 for sound, and to the measure of time. The Zhuangzi already plays with it, asking whether one can stare all day without the lids moving. Buddhist and literary writers made the blink a unit of impermanence: 瞬息之间, in the space of a breath, dynasties, storms, and family fortunes turn over.

Read the story behind the character
The blink became the unit of the digital age. Photos catch a 瞬间 (an instant) of birthday candles; slow motion stretches 一瞬 (a moment) into a full second of glory. Weather, stocks, and trending topics are all 瞬息万变 (changing by the blink), and gamers demand teleport skills — 瞬间移动 — because even a short loading screen now feels like a wait.
Why this character belongs on skin
A blink is the shortest unit the human body can measure, and the ancients built eternity out of it. 瞬 — eye over a sound meaning 'obey' — is that instant: the lids' brief fall, 一瞬, the moment. Buddhists counted time in such flickers, sixty-five of them to a finger-snap, each one a full arising and passing away of a world. The samurai trained in them; lovers live in them; the camera, that late invention, made an industry of stealing them. Everything you actually possess lives at this scale — not the years, which are abstractions, but the instant her hand found yours, the instant the diagnosis landed, the instant the light came through the window exactly so. 瞬 is a memento mori with its sleeves rolled up: the blink will come for all of it, so look while it burns. Wear this single character where you'll see it daily. Let it blink at you, once, always. Eternity was never elsewhere. It was the length of your last eyelid's fall.
