Cultural Story
The Qian hexagram ends its four virtues with zhen, the perseverance that holds a thing true to its course through every turn. The character zhen is that steadiness, the zhong zhen of the loyal and the jian zhen of the unbroken. From the Changes it passed into the chastity of women sworn to one bond, zhen jie, the faith the old code engraved on stone and praised above life.

Read the story behind the character
A wife is called zhong zhen for standing by a sick husband, and a museum explains the zhen jie arch raised for a widowed woman. The word zhen cao names a vow the law no longer enforces, and a girl is praised as zhen nü in the old book. The character zhen still means the loyalty that will not bend.
Why this character belongs on skin
Before it meant chastity, it meant asking the bones — divination, the solemn question put to fate and held without flinching. Later it became fidelity: the steadfast heart, the vow kept when no one watches. 贞 is constancy under pressure, the kind that doesn't announce itself. In a world of easy abandon, to be 贞 is almost radical — to stay, to mean it, to let one thing be enough. The character carries an old gravity; it asks what you would not trade. To wear it is to name your unbroken thing, the line you won't cross, the person or principle you'd keep faith with in the dark. Not purity as absence. Fidelity as a loaded bow. Quiet, unshamed, aimed.
