At a mall, a shopper browses a 超市, supermarket, while a car 超速, exceeds the limit, and a fan calls an athlete 超级, super. A student 超过, surpasses, a rival and a film 超越, transcends, its genre. Ban Chao's leap past his desk now measures a speed, a scale, and a cape. The supermarket and the speed camera are the everyday heirs of that leap.

Why this character belongs on skin

A hawk does not beat the air to rise; it lets the rising itself carry it past the ridge where the goats stop climbing. To go beyond, the character tells us, is to step over a threshold and keep the step. The Buddhists spoke of crossing to the other shore, leaving the burning house of craving without looking back for the doorway. You have felt this—the moment a grief stops being a weight and becomes a weather you move through instead of against. Transcendence is not escape; it is the body learning a larger room. We are built to outgrow the small certainties that once held us. The warrior who surpasses fear is not fearless but faster than it. Wear the mark of the step that cleared the lintel. There is a life on the far side, and you already know the way.
