Cultural Story
To 揉 is to knead, the hands working the dough or the clay until it submits, the oldest collaboration between palm and matter. The ritual and the workshop both know it; the character is the repeated press that makes a thing pliable, and the dough that submitted to the palm became bread, while the clay that submitted became the very bowl the bread was later served in.

Read the story behind the character
A baker 揉麵; a child 揉眼睛, rubs them sleepy; a wife 揉搓s the wet cloth; a letter is 揉碎. The dough is a face now. The repeated press is the same, whether it makes bread, wakes a child, or merely destroys a note the writer wishes he had not sent, and the揉碎 letter is only the dough, baked by a different kind of heat.
Why this character belongs on skin
The baker works the dough with the heel of the hand, folding and pressing until the stubborn lump learns surrender and the air enters it, and what was heavy becomes light enough to rise. To knead is to love something into its better shape through patience and pressure both—the father working the cramp from his son's leg, the mourner rubbing the letter between thumb and finger until the creases hold the grief. The Dao says the soft overcomes the hard, and the hand that kneads proves it hourly. We are kneaded as much as we knead, formed by the pressing of circumstance into a form we did not choose but may yet make beautiful. Wear this for the pressure that shaped you and the hands you have shaped in turn. The dough does not resist the palm. It becomes bread.
