Bào (4th tone). The Shuowen: 「报，当罪人也。从㚔从𠬝。𠬝，服罪也」 — to judge and sentence the guilty, from 㚔 (fetters) and 𠬝 (to submit to guilt); the form is 報. The sense widened to ‘requite / report / answer’: 《诗经·郑风·木瓜》 「投我以木瓜，报之以琼琚」 (repay a gift wit $9.00 – Purchase Checkout Added to cart
